Aran

Traditional textile crafts are a great source of inspiration for my designs. I really admire the techniques that have been developed over the centuries in the British Isles and Ireland.

Aran knitwear has been developed over the centuries by the inhabitants of the Aran Islands, off the west coast of Ireland. Their so-called banín sweaters have made them famous all over the world today.

Although the exact origins of the Aran Sweater have been lost to history, the intricate and unique designs are thought to have been inspired by the Celts, who arrived on the shores of Aran around 2000 BC.

I have translated their mesmerising patterns into a collection of elegant and feminine sweaters and unisex hoods. To emphasize the richness and robustness of the Aran knit, I used up to 12 threads of the highest quality extra fine merino wool and mercerized cotton. Their 4 different shades are mixed randomly, creating a beautiful, bold, natural look.
