A thoughtful approach to caring for your Studio Myr knitwear

At Studio Myr, every piece is designed to be a long-lasting companion — crafted from natural fibres, shaped directly on the machine, and finished by hand in our atelier.
The way you care for your knitwear plays an essential role in its longevity.
Below you will find a clear and gentle guide to help your pieces remain soft, resilient and beautiful for many years.

1. Washing Your Knitwear

Hand Wash (Recommended)

Most Studio Myr knitwear benefits from a gentle hand wash:
• Use lukewarm water (20–30°C).
• Add a mild wool detergent or baby shampoo.
• Submerge the garment and move it gently through the water.
• Avoid rubbing, wringing or stretching the fibres.

Let it soak for 10 minutes, then rinse carefully with clean lukewarm water.

Machine Wash (Only on Wool Cycle)

If your machine has a dedicated wool programme:
• Select cold or max. 20°C
• Use a gentle wool detergent
• Choose lowest spin (400 rpm ideal)
• Use a laundry mesh bag

Avoid all regular cycles — even cold — as they are too rough for natural fibres.

2.DRYING

Proper drying is essential to maintain shape and softness.
• Lay the garment flat on a clean towel.
• Reshape it gently to its original proportions.
• Allow it to dry away from direct heat or sunlight.
• Never hang knitwear when it is wet — it will stretch out of shape.

For heavier pieces, such as alpaca blends, replace the towel halfway through drying to remove excess moisture.

3. Refreshing between wears

Natural fibres such as merino and alpaca require far less washing than synthetic garments.
Often, simple airing is enough to refresh your piece:

• Lay it flat on a chair or hanger.
• Let fresh air circulate for a few hours, preferably near an open window.

This preserves the fibres, keeps colours vibrant and extends the lifespan of your knitwear.

4. Storing your knitwear

During the season
Fold your knitwear and store it on a shelf or in a drawer.
Avoid hanging — gravity can slowly distort the shape of the garment.

Between seasons
• Make sure the garment is clean before storing.
• Fold it neatly and place it in a breathable cotton bag or box.
• Add cedar wood, lavender or cloves as natural moth repellents.
• Avoid airtight plastic bags — natural fibres need to breathe.

5. Preventing and treating pilling

Pilling is a natural characteristic of soft, high-quality fibres — especially in areas exposed to friction. It does not mean the yarn is of poor quality.

To minimise and treat pilling:
• Avoid friction with seat belts, bag straps or very coarse fabrics.
• Remove pills gently with a cashmere comb or fabric shaver.
• Do not pull pills off by hand.

With time and proper care, pilling reduces and your knitwear will settle into a smooth, soft surface.
