A Gentle Ritual: How to Care for Your Luxury Knitwear by Studio Myr
A seasonless philosophy of longevity, softness and natural beauty
At Studio Myr, each design is created to become a long-lasting companion — one that grows with you, softens with time, and remains a piece you reach for year after year. Our knitwear is shaped directly on the machine, finished by hand, and crafted from natural fibres selected for their beauty, strength and heritage.
The way you refresh, wash and store your knitwear plays a defining role in its longevity. Below, you’ll find a refined care guide to ensure your Studio Myr pieces stay beautiful — and become more personal — with every season.

At a Glance — Caring for Luxury Knitwear
• Refresh with air & steam — avoid unnecessary washing
• Hand wash only — cool water, pH-neutral detergent
• Never wring, twist or rub — press the water through
• Always dry flat — reshape gently while damp
• Remove pilling softly with a knitwear comb
• Store flat in breathable cotton — never plastic
Wool has remarkable natural intelligence. Thanks to lanolin, it resists odours, water and dirt, meaning most Studio Myr pieces — from the Velvet Mittens to the Aran Headbands — will refresh beautifully without washing.
Simply lay your knitwear flat in a steamy bathroom or hang it outdoors on a dry, calm day. Often, this gentle breath of air is all that is needed.
A natural garment refresher spray can nurture the fibre and enhance softness without saturating the yarn.
Only Wash When Necessary
Wetting knitwear too often weakens fibres — so wash sparingly, and with intention.
AVOID:
- Spot-cleaning (always clean the entire garment)
- Twisting, rubbing or wringing
- Mixing colours
- Machine “hand-wash cycles”
For all Studio Myr pieces, we recommend hand washing:
The Studio Myr Hand-Wash Method
Fill a clean basin with cool water (max 30°C)
Add a pH-neutral wool detergent
Fully submerge your knitwear
Gently press the water through the fibres — do not scrub
Rinse in water of the same temperature
Press out water without wringing
Roll inside a towel to remove moisture
Reshape and dry flat
Steam lightly if needed, using a cloth barrier
NEVER:
- Hang wet knitwear
- Use a dryer
- Use bleach
Should I Dry Clean?
We advise avoiding dry cleaning. Harsh chemicals weaken natural fibres — and are harmful to the environment.
Hand washing remains the gentlest, most respectful method.
Understanding Pilling
Pilling is not a flaw — it is a natural characteristic of high-quality, untreated fibres like merino, cotton and linen.
To refresh your garment:
Use a soft sweater comb or pumice stone
Work in one direction
Repeat occasionally — pilling reduces over time
Pieces in the Gents Collection and Pied-de-Poule scarves may especially benefit from occasional de-pilling due to their fibre structure.
How to Store Your Knitwear
Thoughtful storage is essential to protect the integrity of your garments.
- Store flat — never on hangers
- Use breathable cotton storage bags
- Clean knitwear before end-of-season storage
- Avoid plastic — it traps moisture
Garments such as the Sweeties Wrap Tops and Aran Jumpers retain their shape best when stored flat.
